Albert E. Hicks was founded in 1923 by the late Mr. Albert E. Hicks. Horse drawn vehicles were used until 1932, when the team of Belgian Blacks were replaced by a motor hearse and limousine cars. Mr. Hicks’ eldest son, Mr. Walter J. Hicks, joined the company in 1935 and helped his father build the business throughout the war years.
Mr. Walter Hicks passed away in 1986. During this time, the services of the company were used by the American Military Forces stationed in South Wales and the West of England. In 1947, the company acquired more convenient premises at Grafton House and provided a Private Chapel. These premises were first used for funeral services on the 9th of February 1949. In the evening, Mr. Albert E. Hicks (the founder) died suddenly, having just pioneered a new era in the company’s history.
Then, in 1951, Mr. Geoffrey A. Hicks joined his brother as a director. The demand for their services was so high that the premises had to be enlarged. Mr. Geoffrey Hicks’ son, Mr. David Hicks, joined his father in the company in 1992.
After Mr. Geoffrey Hicks’ death in 2013, Mr. David Hicks took control of the company.
